Kevin Selfe and the Tornadoes
Kevin Selfe is a man dedicated
to the blues, a
love and passion of his that he's been sharing for more than a decade
with audiences from coast to coast. He's built a loyal following
wherever he goes with his energetic mix of traditional and contemporary
blues.
Kevin found the blues and performance
somewhat
later in life, while studying Meteorology at North Carolina State
University in Raleigh, NC. A roommate of his was a bass player, and
turned him on to blues artists like Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters and
Elmore James. After graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in
Meteorology in 1995, Selfe felt like there was something missing -
another calling - and he abandoned his potential career to pursue the
music that was consuming him.
Kevin started out in the Fat Daddy Band
based out
of Roanoke, VA. With them he competed in the 2002 International Blues
Challenge in Memphis, TN, and was named one of the top 6 unsigned bands
in the world. He spent 6 busy years touring and recording 3 CDs with
Fat Daddy before forming his own band.
With his own band, the Tornadoes, Kevin
has toured
across the US, and has had the opportunity to back such legends as Eddy
"The Chief" Clearwater, and Carey Bell, in what would end up being
Carey's last show. He's since relocated to Portland, and continues to
tour and record, his latest being "Playing The Game" on Blue Skunk
Music. Since moving to Portland he's been nominated for a total of 15
Muddy Awards by the Cascade Blues Association.
